Through its JOURNEYS program, Intermountain
Hospital provides 24-hour inpatient care for adolescents ages 12
through 17 whose acute symptoms require a safe and structured
therapeutic environment. Our interdisciplinary team approach
includes Child and Adolescent certified psychiatrists, counselors,
psychiatric nurses, case managers and mental health technicians who
work closely with the individual and the individual's family. Our
goal is to help each adolescent regain the necessary skills to be
in maximum control of their emotions and behaviors and be able to
proceed through life with a minimum of difficulty. And because
behavioral health issues vary, we tailor our inpatient services to
meet the specialized needs of each patient.
TREATMENT
After admittance to the JOURNEYS program, patients are carefully
assessed before being placed into one of five highly individualized
programs.
- Depression/Suicidality
Helps your child explore and identify the triggers for their
depression, learn about self-esteem issues, and gain healthy stress
management skills.
- Self Esteem/Self-Harm
Focuses on self-directed, harmful behavior, addressing the causes,
the addictive nature, and the recovery process for victims of
self-mutilation.
- Anger/Aggression
Covers the basics of anger management by identifying triggers for
their feelings, typical responses, and the belief system that
guides their actions.
- Anxiety
Aids those who struggle with symptoms of panic and anxiety by
helping the teen develop a "damage plan" for managing periods of
stress.
- CAST (Clean And Sober Teens)
Catered towards those adolescents who require intensive treatment
for drug addiction, helping the patient learn ways to create a
stronger, sober recovery environment.
