The
New Start Center for Recovery is a 20-bed, free-standing unit at Intermountain Hospital in Boise, Idaho. This program is focused on the assessed needs of adult patients who are seeking treatment for co-occurring mental health and drug or alcohol issues.
The program is a 21-day in-patient treatment program which integrates psychiatric, medical, and nursing care, as well as case management, group counseling and individual sessions, with a balanced, flexible approach to the treatment of substance abuse diagnosis.
Treatment is initiated with the medical and psychiatric stabilization of the patient in a safe and supportive environment. This may occur for some individuals on the Adult Psych Unit, depending on the patient’s need. Following this 2-5 day detox and evaluation, the patient begins the New Start program.
The focus of treatment will be ongoing psychiatric care, and an additional strong emphasis on the recovery process. This treatment will be provided on the New Start Recovery unit.
Treatment contains components of psycho-educational classes, cognitive-behavioral therapies, mental health support and education, interactive recreational activities, family counseling and support, relapse prevention, processing shame, guilt, and blame, and awareness of the impact of co-dependent behaviors. The overall program is provided with the hope of helping individuals gain and maintain their sobriety, gain and maintain stability with mental health issues in the context of health and balance.
